Writing this from Cabarete, Dominican Republic’s Atlantic coast.
One more summer, one more country so far. The past year has been quite rough to me and I felt like I needed some salty ocean air, beach runs and new places to discover. I’m hoping to find peace of mind, new friendly human beings and amazing adventures in Dominican Republic! It’s a good start so far! Here are my first impressions on this beautiful Caribbean island!

It’s the low season here, and the rainy season, but the weather has been nothing but amazing so far, with only evening or morning rains. 20 days into July now and honestly, it’s humid, but not that bad. Plus, there’s always a good sea breeze going on.
To contradict my previous point, having A/C is a must, and sure helps cooling my apartment before night time. I only have it running a little bit.
Motoconchos make transportation easy. Just hop on any motor bike that stops on the road and you’ll be in town in 4 minutes. Yes, complete strangers give expats and tourists rides to wherever they go. It’s cheap and efficient.
Advice : Say the price before you say yes for the ride, otherwise they obviously will ask for a 100 pesos instead of 25 pesos for a 4 minutes ride. Same applies to Guaguas rides.
GuaGuas : are you ready to get cramped in a car, or a mini van / bus, like being 2 or 3 on the same seat? Cause that’s the very cheapest way of transportation on longer distances in Dominican Republic. Guaguas are the public cars and vans going around for cheap in any big city of the Dominican Republic.
Safety tip: get a helmet. Some people laughed at me, saying I don’t understand the country, and honestly, I do not care one little bit. I bought myself a helmet for 5$CAD and at least I’m a little safer, in case anything happens while I’m riding with a complete stranger y’a know!
What do I think of the driving and roads here ? It’s smooth and easy going… compared to Asia anyways! 😊 I have to be thankful for riding motorbikes with friends all along the way back in southeast Asia because otherwise, I would probably be scared here.
My plan? Chill out, and enjoy the fact that I am a digital nomad, able to work from anywhere there’s an internet connection. I’m truly blessed of being able to live my life this way and I will enjoy it wildly. So I’m planning to reunite with the ocean, by both surfing and scuba diving. Follow on Instagram! @anchortheblog
What’s going on this summer on your side?
Travel safe!
